Bullying
Bullying is an imbalance of power. When a person uses their power (physical strength, popularity, access to embarrassing or otherwise troubling information, etc) to control or harm another person, that is bullying. Bullying includes but is not limited to: teasing, name-calling, spreading rumors, inappropriate sexual comments, threatening, taunting, excluding someone from a group intentionally, attacking someone verbally or physically, embarrassing someone on purpose, hitting, kicking, pinching, shoving, spitting on, tripping, pushing, taking or breaking someone's belongings, etc. It is an absolutely unacceptable behavior that is preformed by cowards and individuals with low self-esteem who think hurting another person will make them feel better about themselves.
Bullying can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time and can effect a person in many many ways. Losing sleep, feeling ill, skipping school, or contemplating suicide are just a few of the possible outcomes of bullying. It is a very serious matter that has caused numerous suicides, injuries, attempted suicides, and even homicides. Assisting with or simply witnessing a person being bullied, without making an effort to stop it, is just as bad as doing it yourself. Bullying can be a very life-altering and life-threatening activity.
If you have bullied someone in the past, do yourself a favor and apologize to them. You will both feel better afterwards.
If you see someone being bullied, don't jump in and help the person doing the bullying or just stand there taking it all in. If nothing is done to stop bullying, it will continue tearing people apart and destroying the youth of our nation. How would you feel if your best friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, sister, brother, or cousin was bullied? How would you feel if they ended up committing suicide due to being bullied?
If you, yourself, are being bullied- do not let it get to you. There is no one in the entire world who is worth your suffering. Some things you can do to stop bullying include: telling the bully to stop, laughing it off so they think it doesn't really bother you (if it doesn't bother you they won't find it fun anymore), walk away, tell a trusted adult, stay away from places where the bullying occurs, or stay near an adult or close friend at all times. No one deserves to be bullied, period.
